I've been working rather diligently on getting up early and getting outside for a walk, trying to regain at least some sense of the physical person that I've lost during my struggle. My distances have steadily increased as has my pace but, there are still those days where I'll plod along through the first mile and start thinking "I really don't wanna... I could just turn here and call it a day." Then I remind myself of the Big Picture Goal™ and I tell myself to keep on plodding. Eventually I get to a point where turning around makes the journey farther than just going ahead but at the same time I'm learning that I'm not running a race, I'm reconditioning my body and I need to recharge my soul as well. I've learned not to just keep my head down and bullfrog my way through my walk at breakneck (ok, rubberneck) speed but to glance around and enjoy the scenery around me, and I've learned that it's ok to stop and enjoy a flower, talk to a pastured goat (it's ok to laugh, the goat does too!) or admire some rural farm architecture. For me the destination is only part of the journey and it won't mean much if I don't stop and enjoy the scenery along the way from time to time.

And if anyone reading this happens to live in or near California's Central Valley and happens upon a man talking to a goat, please know I'm just fine, and so is the goat...Myelomanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15526283396528590660noreply@blogger.com
